Awesome, I don't think I've seen any desktop payphones myself personally. I'd be interested in pictures/numbers for those if you can get 'em...

Just an update that this has since been changed, and 911 now uses the network-wide operator ring group, so all switches should be getting the same thing.

NPSTN now has an Emergency 911 Operator Service (known as the VED, Volunteer Emergency Dispatch).

When you dial 911 on NPSTN (not currently working on NA01) it will go to the VED Direct number (248-9110)
This number will play a recording explaining the number is not an emergency number, and if you stay on the line, you will get transferred to an emergency operator. This should work for most peoples switches because it has been changed in the route table.

Remember, NPSTN 911 is not for REAL emergency calls, but in the case of an actual emergency we can try our best to provide emergency services by bridging in 911.

Nice bell logo ripoff, but it's way too big and does't fit on the screen.

Payphones / Re: Payphones Near You

The only payphones I've seen don't have a dialtone.
There's a couple of stores that have the desktop pay telephones, I'll try to take some pics and get the numbers.

Payphones / Payphones Near You

Know of any payphones near you?

Please let me know about! Particularly if they are COCOTs, and especially if they are PTS COCOTs.

Please share the payphone number. Bonus points if you also have a picture.

You can easily get the # of a payphone by calling 1-800-444-4444 (MCI ANAC). Good to confirm even if there is a numbercard, to see if it checks out.

Believe it or not, there are payphones near you, just waiting to be discovered. So pick up that handset on the corner. It may work...

Thanks!
